FCP Special Programs
First Church Preschool is pleased to offer the Music Together In-School Introductory Curriculum! Along with a weekly Music Together class led by one of Music Together’s In-School Curriculum specialists, families will be receiving CD’s, songbooks, and a download code good for up to 5 devices that they can use to listen to the music at home through the free ”Hello Everybody” app. Teachers will also be using the music curriculum to help with other areas of learning such as math, science, early literacy skills, etc.
Families will also be receiving flyers with ideas for activities that can be done at home using the Music Together curriculum and that will also support their child’s overall development. In addition, there will be Sing-Along events planned so that families can come in and participate in the singing and dancing with their child at school!
RAD LAB SCIENCE PROGRAM
Rad Lab is a science program for children which fosters their natural curiosity while building science confidence and literacy amongst young learners.
Children are natural scientists, constantly questioning the world around them. They are fascinated by new observations, and enjoy making new discoveries! While having fun and getting plenty of hands-on experience with science, children will learn scientific concepts aligned with the state Core Science Curriculum Frameworks for Pre-K to 2nd grade.
YOGA FOR CHILDREN
Kat Jacobs has been leading our preschool yoga program for several years. She feels that the most important thing she can teach this age group is to take a deep breath and slow down. She uses stories and movement to introduce the concepts of mindfulness and body awareness. She breaks down these concepts in creative and fun ways that the children really enjoy. The children learn that the strategies she teaches can be applied in the classroom, at home, or whenever they need to calm their minds and bodies. Science shows that calm minds are primed for learning. Also, knowing how to de-stress is a critical life skill for children – and everyone!
“Senora Cordero”, as the children call her, has been teaching Spanish to our 4s and Pre-K classes for two years. She was a Spanish language and literature teacher in Santiago, Chile, before coming to the United States with her family. She provides fun, interactive experiences for helping the children learn basic Spanish words and phrases. She uses music, art, physical activity, and even nature walks as means for introducing Spanish in meaningful ways. Two of Senora Cordero’s children have attended First Church Preschool. Los ninos aman a la Senora Cordero!
